Mesothelioma

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare type kind of cancer that occurs in the thin layer of cells lining the body's internal organs which is known to be mesothelium. It is usually caused by exposure to asbestos.

There are 3 type of mesothelioma recognized:

Pleural mesothelioma - this is the most common form of disease. This is said to roughly have 70% of cases which occurs in the lining of the lung known as pleura.

Peritoneal mesthelioma - this occurs in the lining of the abdominal cavity which is known the peritoneum

Pericardial mesothelioma originates in the pericardium which lines the heart.

If you are exposed to asbestos in workplace or at home and individual may be at risk to develop mesothelioma. Exposure to absestos as well as inhalation of asbestos particles is the main cause of mesothelioma. After many years of exposure to asbestos mesothelioma symptoms will appear, but most cases the symptoms may not appear unless after many years of exposure.
